Sauna culture has exploded in popularity in recent years; the ancient practice has seen a massive resurgence thanks to people’s increased interest in health and wellness. Toronto is no exception. The city features a handful of gyms and spas that prominently feature saunas. Whether you’re seeking a dedicated sauna studio, a sprawling outdoor spa complex, or a heritage bathhouse for your sauna needs, Toronto has more than enough options.

As such, it can be overwhelming to choose from the countless sauna experiences available to Torontians. If you’re looking for the best sauna in the city, we’re here to help.

How We Ranked These Recovery Spas for Men

To determine the best saunas in Toronto, we developed a set of criteria to evaluate venues on things like sauna quality, programming, value, and accessibility. The following criteria are set on a weighted scale that ultimately adds up to 100, giving us a score on which we built our final rankings. Our criteria for Toronto saunas are as follows:

  • Heat/Experience Quality (30%): This category takes into account the types of saunas that a venue offers; are they dry, infrared, or even wood-fired? Are they communal or individual?
  • Sauna & Cold Pairing (25%): Is the sauna paired with a cold plunge, ice bath, or any other form of contrast therapy?
  • Atmosphere & Design (20%): Is the sauna space purpose-built? Was it made using traditional materials such as cedar or stone? Is the space itself thought-provoking, intentional, or atmospheric?
  • Group & Social Offerings (15%): Is the experience designed to be social, in the traditional sauna sense? Or is it more geared towards individuals?
  • Value (10%): How does the cost of the sauna session relate to the quality and length of the experience?

1. Othership: Best overall sauna experience in Toronto

As judged by our specific criteria, Othership takes the case for the best sauna experience in all of Toronto. Its Adelaide Street flagship location is home to the city’s largest guided cedar sauna, purpose-built and reaching temperatures well over 80 degrees Celcius. The sauna accommodates up to 50 people at one time, which makes for a truly communal experience - the way sauna was meant to be enjoyed. With Othership, every sauna experience is guided, meaning the focus is on ritual, breathwork, and wellness, rather than mere access. More than anything, the guided tradition at Othership is what sets it apart from any other sauna in the city.

The Othership space itself is, well, truly other. Everything about the experience, from the lighting, materials, and hospitality, makes guests feel like they’re stepping into an entirely different world. The whole experience is a reflection of deep care and warmth. Whether you’re new to sauna or an experienced sauna-goer, Othership is the place for you.

2. Thermea: Best for large-scale, outdoor sauna village

The Thermea Spa Village is perhaps unique among the other facilities on this list due to its sheer size. Thermea is not just one or two saunas in a building. Rather, it's an entire outdoor village dedicated to sauna and contrast therapy. Its grounds include numerous dry saunas, steam rooms, and a large-scale event sauna. It also features cold plunges and other pools at varying temperatures. While Thermea is yet to offer guided sauna experiences, its variety makes it a great option for self-guided sauna-seekers in Toronto.

  • Locations: 4015 Cochrane St, Whitby, ON L1P 2A9
  • Founded: 2005
  • Features: Steam rooms, saunas, thermotherapy, cold plunge pools, communal areas
  • Price: Spa experiences start at $125

Summary of Online Reviews

Clients praise Thermea’s sheer variety of experiences on offer, as well as the quality of their saunas and steam rooms. Some reviewers note that the roughly 45-minute drive outside of Toronto makes this a slightly less accessible option. Reviewers say this is more of a day trip sauna experience, rather than a quick stop after work or in the morning.

3. Aire Ancient Baths: Best for sauna atmosphere and bath circuit

AIRE Ancient Baths brings a European-style spa and bath experience to Toronto. Featuring numerous pools at various temperatures, plus a dry sauna and a steam room, AIRE offers guests a variety of experiences. The facility itself is stunning. Dimly lit and truly giving an ancient feel, the AIRE experience feels ritualistic and almost downright historical, like one is taking a step back into the bathhouses of ancient Rome. While the facility does feature a sauna and a steam room, these amenities can feel like more of an afterthought when compared to the baths.

  • Locations: 510A Front St W (Unit 100), Toronto, ON M5V 1B8
  • Founded: 2001; Toronto location opened in 2025
  • Features: Sauna, steam room, hot and cold baths
  • Price: Starting at $145 per person

Summary of Online Reviews

Guests praise AIRE Ancient Baths for their impeccable, thought-provoking experience. They also note how genuinely relaxing the entire experience is. Some reviewers claim that the price is a bit too high for people to use AIRE as a regular sauna destination.

4. Trove Wellbeing: Best for a private sauna session

Traditionally, sauna was something of a shared experience - a communal event. However, that’s not what everyone looks for when they’re searching for a sauna experience. If you’re looking for a more private sauna experience in Toronto, Trove Wellbeing might just be the way to go. As one of the newer wellness facilities on the scene (Trove was founded in 2024), they’ve quickly grown in popularity thanks to their massive facility and suite of wellness offerings. Their sauna experience is easy to book and approachable in terms of price.

  • Locations: 426 Adelaide St W, Toronto, ON M5V 0M8
  • Founded: 2024
  • Features: Infrared sauna, cold plunge, other wellness experiences on offer as well
  • Price: Flat rate credit system with each credit at $48

5. Elmwood Spa: Best for sauna paired with full-service treatments

Elmwood Spa has served Toronto since 1982, and there’s good reason it’s been around that long. Elmwood features a range of treatments, therapies, and facilities. For those seeking access to a sauna, it’s a great option. The spa features a traditional sauna plus two steam rooms. If you’re looking to parlay that sauna experience into other wellness treatments, Elmwood Spa has a number on offer, including massage, cryotherapy, IV treatments, and even red light therapy, making it a true one-stop shop.

They note that Elmwood seems to offer almost anything they could want when it comes to wellness and recovery. Some reviewers, however, long for a more atmospheric and well-designed space for their sauna sessions.

6. Guerlain Spa at Hotel X Toronto: Best for private, luxurious recovery

While the Guerlain Spa at Hotel X Toronto does not offer a traditional dry sauna, its dedicated steam room and relaxation lounge are a great pick for someone who is looking for heat therapy in a calming, spa-like setting. The Guerlain Spa offers guests a more private, luxurious experience than some of the other destinations on our list. Guests often praise the brand for providing top-notch service to pair with world-class facilities.

  • Locations: 111 Princes' Blvd, Toronto, ON M6K 3C3
  • Founded: 2019
  • Features: Steam room, massage, hot stone treatment, facials, lymphatic drainage

Summary of Online Reviews

Reviewers constantly go back to the staff at the Guerlain Spa at Hotel X Toronto; they claim their care, knowledge, and hospitality are what made the experience special. Some reviewers note that at such a premium price point, the Guerlain spa isn’t necessarily a realistic option for people looking to consistently do heat therapy.
